A new tool reads the live Vltava level at the gauges upstream of town — Vyšší Brod (about 43 km up) and Zátoň (about 20 km) — next to the town's own Nové Spolí gauge. Because the upstream gauges rise before the water reaches the centre, a climbing reading there is an early sign of a flood pulse heading down the valley. It stays descriptive: the official flood degree is still set by ČHMÚ and the town flood commission, both linked.

Reine sits almost under the auroral belt, but a clear answer to "should I go out tonight?" means weighing three things at once. The new tool puts them together for the nights ahead: NOAA's space-weather model for how active the lights are, the cloud forecast over the genuinely dark hours, and how much real darkness there is — which this far north swings from no darkness at all under the midnight sun to the deep dark of the polar night. It is honest that a good reading is a chance worth checking, never a promise, and it points to the official NOAA forecast.

The forest loop behind town is Kep's best walk and its cheapest day out. Reading it needs no account. It starts empty and fills as people report; one or two reports are not a price, so the typical figure only shows once a few have come in. It reports what people paid — not official prices, and not advice on what is fair.

The weather-warnings tool can now read MET Norway's official MetAlerts feed, so Norwegian coastal and mountain towns get the same live storm, wind, rain and snow warnings — in Norwegian, with MET's own wording — that Irish, US and Canadian towns already have. First use: Henningsvær, on the exposed Vestfjorden coast.

A new calculator works out what trekking the Rwenzori actually costs: the Uganda Wildlife Authority park fees — which are far lower for a Ugandan or East African citizen than for a foreign visitor — the crew's published pay, and a fair tip. Pick a route, the number of days and your group size, and it shows the fees in the right currency, alongside the two community operators who run the Central Circuit and the Kilembe Trail. It is there to help you compare an operator's quote and to make sure the local porters, guides and cooks — who are your neighbours — are paid properly. It does not set a price; your operator's written quote is what binds.

Astoria now has a plain guide to what to do in a tsunami. On this coast a strong or long earthquake is itself the warning — the first wave can be only minutes behind it — so the page explains how to recognise the natural signs, what to do during and after the shaking, and to walk inland and uphill out of the low ground by the river without waiting for a siren or an alert. It points to the official DOGAMI "Beat the Wave" evacuation map and to Clatsop County's alerts and the national tsunami warning service. It is a safety reference to read now, not a live alert.

We added a reusable tool that works out the real cost of trekking a national park where fees are charged per day and depend on whether you are a citizen or a foreign visitor — and that shows the crew's published pay, so people can tell a fair quote from one that underpays the porters and guides. The first one is for the Rwenzori Mountains, above Kasese in Uganda. The same week we also made the tsunami self-evacuation guide work for coasts like Cascadia, where there is no single safe height — only a mapped zone to climb above — so it now fits Astoria, Oregon as well as the Chilean coast it was built for.

The Harbour Conditions page carried a safety note written for patrolled beaches — it told swimmers to stay between the flags when lifeguards are on. Vernazza's harbour has neither, so the note now says plainly that there are no lifeguards here, that you swim at your own risk, and to look at the sea before you get in. Reads the live federal gauge at Cochem and shows, on one calibrated scale, which streets and landmarks go under at the current level — from the first cellars at 5.08 m to the great floods of 1993 and 2024. The first helps households that live on stored water work out whether what is in the tank will last until the next delivery, and what daily ration stretches it — for places where piped water arrives only every few weeks. The second puts a town's Catholic churches on a map with their Mass and confession times. Both keep every figure tied to a source we checked.
