Who to Call in Canada, Kentucky

Pike County 911 & Emergency Management · Mountain Water District — main line · Kentucky Power — report an outage

The numbers you need in a place with no town hall of its own: the water district, the county, the volunteer fire department, the power company, the hospital.

Canada has no town hall, because it is not a town — it is an unincorporated community in Pike County, and every single service you use belongs to somebody else: the county, a water district, a state highway district, a utility, or a volunteer fire department. That is the whole reason this page exists. Until now these numbers sat in a tariff filed with a regulator, a state fire-service PDF, a county directory from 2015 and a TV news story. Here they are in one place, and every one of them dials when you tap it.

Sign up for Hyper-Reach — the county cannot reach you otherwise

Pike County switched to Hyper-Reach in January 2026 and it is now how official word gets to this valley: flash-flood warnings, shelter-in-place orders and boil-water advisories, by text, voice or email. It is free, and there is a sign-up card for it in the first group below. The county's own website still links the old CodeRED page — that one is out of date.

Nobody publishes your bin day

Pike County Solid Waste runs the collection, and no route or day for the Big Creek area is published anywhere we can find — not on the county site, not on the department's Facebook page. The department tells residents to have trash out by 6:30 a.m. If you ring 606-432-6245 and find out the day for East Big Creek Road, please tell us through the correction link at the foot of this page and we will put it up for your neighbours.

Call this first. Everything below is for afterwards, or for things that are not an emergency.

Hyper-Reach — the county's alerts

Sign up free, by text, voice or email

Call or text that number, or sign up on the web page. Live since January 2026 and paid for jointly by Pike County, the City of Pikeville and Mountain Water District, so it carries boil-water advisories as well as weather warnings. About thirty Kentucky counties are on the same service, so the alerts follow you if you travel.

Big Creek Volunteer Fire Department

Your fire department — about 23 volunteers

Chief Rick Green, from the Kentucky mutual-aid roster of July 2026, which is also where the address above comes from. Ring before you drive down: the station flooded on New Year's Day 2022 and has flooded since 2009, the fiscal court discussed applying for a grant to buy and demolish it, and no replacement site has been reported — two current registries list two different street numbers for it. The phone number is the solid part.
