The way up from Dumre and back — the local bus and jeep, what they cost, and the last bus down in the afternoon, with the Kathmandu and Pokhara connections — so a trip doesn't strand you at the junction.

Bandipur has one road in — the 8 km climb from Dumre on the Prithvi Highway — and no railway anywhere near. Almost everyone arrives the same way: a highway bus to the Dumre junction, then a local bus or a jeep up the ridge. Here is how that journey works in each direction, what it roughly costs, and the one thing worth planning around: the last local bus down leaves in the afternoon, and after it the only way off the ridge is a private jeep.
Plan your way back before you set off
There is no train. The buses out leave in the late afternoon, and missing the last one means staying the night. Note your last bus before you arrive:
Toward Dumre: last bus reported around around 3 pm — confirm the exact time with the operator.
Toward Kathmandu: check the operator’s last departure.
Toward Pokhara: check the operator’s last departure.

Fare
around NPR 100 by local bus; a jeep or taxi is roughly NPR 700–1,000 for the whole vehicle

Good to know
This 8 km climb is the only vehicle road up to the ridge. Local buses run through the day and stop in the mid-afternoon; after the last one, a private jeep or taxi is the only way up or down. In the monsoon (June–September) a landslide can block the road — check the road board and rain outlook on this page before you set out.

Good to know
Buses leave Kathmandu in the morning. To reach Bandipur the same day, aim to be at the Dumre junction by early afternoon so you can still catch a local bus up the ridge; arrive later and you may need to hire a jeep.

Pokhara is the closer gateway. Buses run along the Prithvi Highway through the day; get down to Dumre in good time to connect up to the ridge before the last local bus.
Through the seasons
The monsoon and the only road
From June to September, heavy rain can trigger a landslide or slip on the Dumre climb and close it for hours or days — there is no second route. In the wet season, allow extra time, travel earlier in the day, and check the road board and rain outlook on this page before you leave.
Book ahead in the autumn high season
Around Dashain and Tihar (usually late September into November) the bazaar fills, rooms are tight and the buses busy. Reserve a tourist bus and your room a few days ahead if you are travelling then.
Check the operators
These are the routes and the usual patterns. For exact departure times, prices and to book, use the official pages — they are the authority:
