The íbúakort is for people who live inside the marked residents' area and have no parking on their own plot: registered owners with their lögheimili in the flat, tenants with a registered lease, and students who show confirmation from their school. One card per dwelling, one registration number on it, and it is electronic — the wardens' system looks the plate up, so there is nothing to put in the window. It is applied for through Akureyrarbær's þjónustugátt, renews itself yearly, and is not refunded if you cancel part-way. It exempts you from paying only in the charged bays inside the area your own card covers, which is not the whole of P1 or P2 — the town publishes a map of the card areas.
Separately, the town leases long-stay bays by the month on two fixed-lease areas, which are not the same thing as the zones above: F1 at Skipagata and Hofsbót costs 13.550 kr. a month, F2 at Túngata 6.750 kr. a month. A fixed-lease card is valid only inside its own area, covers one registration number at a time, and lapses if a month goes unpaid. At the P1 rate the F1 card is worth it from about 60 charged hours a month, which is roughly half of what a weekday-long stay through the whole charging window would come to.
