An ambulance crew starts treatment where you are and takes you to the hospital that can treat the problem, which is not always the closest one. Stowe has a pharmacy on Mountain Road, and after that everything is a drive. The hospital, the emergency room, the walk-in clinic and the family doctors are all in Morrisville, and since Copley closed its Birthing Center in November 2025 there is nowhere in Lamoille County to have a baby. This page sets out which place still does what, and how far each one is from the village.

Copley's Birthing Center closed on 1 November 2025, so there is nowhere in Lamoille County to give birth. Berlin is about 38 minutes away and Burlington about 50. Work the drive out before you need it, and again in winter.

If the birth is close, or you can't reach your birthing hospital, call 911. That is Copley's own advice: be taken by ambulance to the most appropriate hospital.
Copley also lists North Country Hospital in Newport, Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. All three are further from Stowe than Berlin or Burlington.

What has changed
Copley's Birthing Center closed on 1 November 2025
It closed at 7am, after welcoming babies since 1933. Lamoille County now has no hospital or birth center offering obstetric care, so a birth means Berlin (about 38 minutes) or Burlington (about 50). Copley lists five regional birthing centers and says the Women's Center staff can refer you and transfer your records. For an obstetric emergency away from a birthing hospital, Copley's instruction is to call 911 and be taken by ambulance.
Lamoille Health's Stowe office moved to Morrisville in February 2025
Lamoille Health Partners consolidated its Stowe family-medicine practice at 1878 Mountain Road into its Morrisville building, effective 24 February 2025, citing the cost of the Stowe premises. Appointment dates, times and providers stayed the same — only the address changed. The pharmacy in the same building stayed, and is the only Lamoille Health service still in Stowe. The organization said it wants to find a way back to Stowe.

Walk in or call ahead. Lamoille Health is Lamoille County's only federally qualified health center and publishes a financial-assistance policy — ask about it if cost is the problem.

Midwives opened a Morrisville clinic in June 2026
Green Mountain Birth & Wellness, founded by midwives from the closed Copley Birthing Center, now sees prenatal, postpartum and well-woman patients at 24 Upper Main Street in Morrisville. It is not doing births yet: the nonprofit's aim is Vermont's first freestanding birth center, in Waterbury, by 2028.
