Report municipal problems on WhatsApp
The municipality's Let's Fix It line — 076 951 0768 — takes water, electricity, refuse and road complaints by WhatsApp message. For anything dangerous (a burst main flooding a street, downed cables), phone the 24-hour emergency line 021 808 8890 instead.
Street robbery is a documented, tracked problem here
A 2025 safety imbizo recorded reported muggings rising from about 95 in 2021 to over 300 in 2024, and SAPS has told Eikestadnuus that robbers targeting students, often for bicycles, have been working the area around Dorp, Bird, Plein, Andringa, Crozier, Paul Kruger and Dennesig Streets and the Eikestad Mall parking lot. It is worst after dark. Use the free SU night shuttle above rather than walking alone at night, keep bicycles secured and out of sight, and report anything happening right now to the Safety Initiative control room or 10111 rather than only afterward — the pattern only gets tracked and resourced if it's reported.
