Stanley has one public bus a day. Route 768 (run by Kinetic for the Tasmanian transport network) links Stanley with Smithton and Burnie, but on weekdays it runs only once each way — out of Stanley early in the morning, back in the mid-afternoon. Miss it and the next one is tomorrow, so plan an overnight rather than a same-day round trip. There is no rideshare in Stanley and no taxi based in town. Residents without a car who need to reach Smithton (the hospital, 21 km away) or Burnie should book Circular Head community or medical transport ahead by phone — see the numbers below.
One bus out, and it leaves early
On weekdays the only Route 768 service out of Stanley leaves around 7:21am; the return from Burnie is a single mid-afternoon run. There is no later service to fall back on, so if the bus is your only way home, build the whole day around it.
Last bus back toward Burnie: around 7:21am on weekdays — the only bus out

Booking
No reservation neededNo booking needed — it is an ordinary public bus, you just board. But there is only one weekday service each way, so there is no catching a later one if you miss it.

Weekdays, one service each way: out of Stanley about 7:21am (into Burnie Interchange by roughly 8:40am), and back from Burnie Interchange about 2:55pm, reaching Stanley about 4:14pm. A limited Saturday service also runs (leaving Stanley around 9:51am); there is no Sunday service. Times shift from time to time — confirm the current timetable on the Transport Tasmania page before you travel.
Booking
Circular Head medical transport (Transport for Medical)
Coordinated transport to medical appointments for Circular Head residents who cannot get there themselves — the hospital and medical centre are in Smithton, 21 km from Stanley. Book well ahead, not on the day.
Community Transport Services Tasmania (CTST) — Circular Head
Door-to-door community transport for medical appointments, shopping and outings across the Circular Head district. New passengers register first by phone, then book each trip ahead.
June to August is Stanley's low season — daylight is short, so the morning bus out leaves close to first light, and cold-front weather can occasionally disrupt services. The 768 runs year-round to broadly the same weekday pattern, but check the timetable and, in winter, allow for the early, dark start.
