Reading is the western end of the Elizabeth line — for a lot of the town the day starts and ends at Reading station. This board reads the line's live status straight from Transport for London, so you can tell before you leave whether trains towards Paddington and central London are running normally.

The Elizabeth line runs from Reading and Heathrow in the west, under central London, out to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. Heading in from Reading the stops are Twyford, Maidenhead, Taplow, Burnham, Slough, Langley, Iver, West Drayton, Hayes & Harlington, Southall, Hanwell, West Ealing and Ealing Broadway before the central tunnels. A problem anywhere on the western branch — a faulty train at Hayes, signalling at Slough — can hold up Reading trains even when the rest of the line is fine, so this board shows the line's worst current status, not only the part near you.
Great Western Railway also runs fast trains from Reading to Paddington that this board does not cover — GWR is a separate operator with its own live status, and a Reading–Paddington fast train can be quicker than the Elizabeth line's all-stops service. When one is disrupted the other is often the way in, so it is worth checking both. A network radio failure once briefly stopped trains across the whole area and part-suspended Reading–Paddington, which is exactly the kind of morning this board is for.
