The tenth of Muharram, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at Karbala — the defining communal observance of Khiam's year. It is marked by majalis (mourning gatherings and sermons), black dress and elegies, and processions. It is preceded by Tasu'a on the 9th.
Khiam's Ashura procession has historically moved south toward the old Fatima Gate at the border. Whether, where and how processions are held in a given year now depends on conditions in a town that has been heavily damaged and largely displaced — ask locally.
