Prices are in Kenyan shillings and move with the fuel price, the season and the day.
One seat, ~285 km, about 4-5 hours via Nanyuki. SACCOs like Nyakati, 4NTE and Meiso quote around KSh 1,100; Isiolo Raha, Inana, Abuya and others sit nearer KSh 1,200-1,500. It rises during school openings, holidays and Fridays.
Watch for: A stranger or tout quoting KSh 2,000+ 'because the vehicle is full' or 'express'. Walk to a SACCO office and ask the posted fare.

One seat for the ~50 km hop south. No fixed published Isiolo–Meru fare was found, so this range is judged from comparable short northern-Kenya matatu hops (Nanyuki–Meru runs about KSh 300). Confirm the going rate at the stage before boarding.
Watch for: Being charged a Nairobi-length fare for a short hop. This leg is a few hundred shillings, not a thousand.

One seat, ~270 km up the tarmac A2, roughly 4-5 hours. Operators (Abuya Modern, Moyale Liner and others) sell the full Nairobi–Marsabit run at about KSh 2,500 with a KSh 1,100-1,500 Nairobi–Isiolo leg; the Isiolo–Marsabit segment is judged from that, not a separate published fare. Ask the operator's Isiolo office directly.
Watch for: Being told you must pay the full KSh 2,500 Nairobi–Marsabit fare when you are only boarding at Isiolo.

One seat, ~430 km up the A2 to the Moyale border, most of a day. The full Nairobi–Moyale bus is about KSh 3,000 and the Marsabit–Moyale leg is quoted at ~KSh 1,200; the Isiolo–Moyale segment is judged from those, not a separate published fare. Confirm with Moyale Liner or Abuya at their Isiolo office.
Watch for: A tout quoting the whole Nairobi–Moyale KSh 3,000 fare, or an 'express' surcharge, when you board at Isiolo.

One shared seat to nearby stops and estates. No Isiolo-specific published fare was found; short in-town and near-town matatu hops in Kenya typically run KSh 30-100 and are negotiated. Ask a fellow passenger what they are paying.
Watch for: Being asked several hundred shillings for a short shared-seat hop. That is a private-hire price, not a matatu seat.

One ride within town. Boda fares are always negotiated; upcountry Kenyan towns run about half of Nairobi, where a short ~3 km ride is around KSh 100. A short hop in Isiolo is roughly KSh 50-100 and a longer cross-town ride up to about KSh 150. Agree the price before you sit on the bike.
Watch for: No price agreed until you arrive, then a jump to KSh 200-300. Name your fare first and confirm the rider agrees.

One ride for the whole tuk-tuk within Isiolo town. A tuk-tuk is more private than a matatu so it costs more; no Isiolo-specific published fare was found, so this is an honest negotiated range for a short town trip. Settle it before setting off.
Watch for: A per-person charge when you have hired the whole tuk-tuk, or a fare quoted only after you arrive.

These figures are what neighbours and travellers report paying around Isiolo in 2025-2026, gathered from Kenyan fare listings, operators and traveller accounts. They are not an official price list. Fares move with the fuel price, the season, public holidays and market days, and the intercity legs shown as 'derived' are judged from the full-route fares (for example Nairobi–Marsabit or Nairobi–Moyale) minus the Nairobi–Isiolo leg, so treat those ranges as a guide, not a quote. Agreeing the fare before you board or sit down is your best protection. This is not a ranking of which SACCO, bus or rider to use — just a sense of what is fair.
