From 8 April 2026 Bristol charges Residents Parking Scheme permits by VED emissions band, and the price jumps for a second and third car. Pick your bands and see what your household's permits actually add up to a year.

Check the vehicle's V5C logbook, or the DVLA's own vehicle enquiry service, for its CO2 band.

Discretionary: the council only issues a third permit "if the Council believes there to be sufficient capacity within the RPS to do so" (Terms and Conditions v1.9, clause 5.5) — ask before counting on it.

Notes

The highest-emitting vehicle on the permit sets the price for that permit — even if it isn't the car you're applying for right now (Residents Parking Scheme Terms and Conditions v1.9, clause 5.10).
There is no EV discount and no diesel surcharge on these permits, whatever some third-party parking sites claim.
Easton and St Philips ran its own cheaper table until 8 April 2026; this harmonisation is why some households there saw rises of up to 108%.
Any off-street parking (a driveway, garage or allocated space) generally limits a household to ONE permit — except on Pitlochry Close, Cheswick Village, Chatsworth Road and Edward Road.
The Central Parking Zone (parts of Clifton, Clifton East, Kingsdown) is a separate Controlled Parking Zone outside these Residents Parking Scheme terms altogether: a flat £250 a year, its own waiting list and a paper application — not another permit stacked on top of the ones below.
