The city centre busy calendar and the footstreets access page now carry the 2026 Christmas Market's confirmed dates (12 November to 21 December, closed Tuesdays), which weren't published yet when those pages were first built.
Pick your band to see this year's council tax for most of York — the total, what it is a month, and how it splits between City of York Council and the Mayor's police and fire precepts.
We had band D at £2,287. The council's own charges page says £2,269.91 for the parts of York without a parish council, and we have replaced our whole band table with the published one. We have not built a council tax tool yet: the council publishes the total but not how it splits between the city, adult social care and the two mayoral precepts, and the mayor's own page has not filled its figure in.
Type your postcode to see the catchment secondary school for that address, from the council's own map. Beside it, what happened in the last round at every York secondary: how many places there were, how many families named the school first, how many were refused, and which criteria the places went on. Five schools refused nobody in 2026; Huntington filled with one place going on distance. Applications open on 12 September and close on 31 October. A catchment gives you priority, not a place — and you always have to apply.
Our research said 2.5 miles around 263 acres. Friends of York Walls and Visit York both publish 3.4 km, about 2 miles, and the 263-acre figure could not be confirmed anywhere. Corrected while building the walls tool. Walmgate Bar's distinction is also narrower than we had it: it is the only town gate in England that still has its barbican.
First York's city and Park & Ride routes and East Yorkshire's Y12 and Y14, read from the operators' own tracking feed. It cannot tell you a bus has been cancelled: York's cancellation data goes to a system that publishes nothing publicly, so an empty card means no bus is reporting, not that yours is gone.
Council car parks cost about 10% more on Fridays, Saturdays and event days. The calculator shows both prices side by side rather than making you pick a day to find out. The council publishes no list of which other days count as event days, and the page says so.
Parking costs for all ten council long-stay car parks against a Park & Ride return, including the Friday and Saturday premium. Who can drive into the footstreets and through which gate. How busy the centre will be on a given day. Live bus positions, live river levels and flood warnings, your own bin days with email reminders, the city walls with their dusk locking times, and a place for residents to answer the questions York people keep asking each other.
