The town page was still offering a MET Malaysia warnings page that had been retired on 22 September, so it pointed residents at something that was not there. The note has been rewritten. It also said the river has no gauge. That is only true of the Sungai Larut through the town centre — the Drainage and Irrigation Department publishes eight gauges elsewhere in this district, and they are on the site now.
The entry fees for Zoo Taiping and the Night Safari, as the council gazetted them on 5 February 2026: a Malaysian rate and a non-citizen rate across three age bands, with the daytime zoo and the Night Safari priced as two separate tickets. The Night Safari's opening hours are the by-law's own. Where the by-law is silent the page says so instead of guessing. It sets no opening hours for the daytime zoo, gives no Sunday hours for the Night Safari, sets no fee for a child under three, and does not say what proof of citizenship the counter asks for.
This page's setup named a weather-warning source we don't support yet, so it was showing a placeholder instead of real warnings. We've taken it down rather than leave that up — it'll be back once we have a working feed for Malaysia.
It reads MET Malaysia's own bulletins as they are published and keeps the ones that name Larut, Matang dan Selama, with the hours each one runs and the official channels beside it. When there is no warning for our district it says so and gives the time it checked. You can also get an email the moment a warning is issued for the district — no account needed. Thunderstorm warnings are the ones worth watching here: the floods that empty kampungs usually start as one, a couple of hours ahead.
The Air Pollutant Index at the Department of Environment's own Taiping station, updated hourly, with DOE's health advice for the band and the last 24 hours. It also states the API 200 school-closure rule and names the bodies that decide — the index does not. The monitor is published as "Taiping" but stands in Kamunting, about 8.7 km north-west of the Lake Gardens, and the page says so.
How much rain the weather model puts on the Bintang Range and on Taiping itself — a stand-in for the government's own rainfall gauges, which have not been reporting for this catchment. Not a flood warning; for that, follow APM and the district office.

The town page now opens with a drawing of the hundred-year-old rain trees leaning out over the flooded mining pools, with Bukit Larut in the rain haze behind them.
Taiping is live with two tools. **Waktu Solat** shows JAKIM's published timetable for zone PRK06 — the same times the mosques here keep, rather than times we work out ourselves. PRK06 reaches beyond the town to Selama, Bagan Serai and Parit Buntar, and includes Kamunting and Matang; the page says so. It also carries something we did not expect to find: Bukit Larut is a separate JAKIM zone, PRK07, and the difference is real — from 1,250 m you see the sun 4 to 5 minutes earlier and lose it 3 to 4 minutes later than the town below. If JAKIM cannot be reached, the page falls back to times computed from the sun and says clearly that it has. It works offline once loaded. **Where Does It Flood?** is the record rather than a forecast. Taiping's flooding is flash flooding from short violent rain, and it lands on the same peri-urban kampungs each time while the heritage core stays dry — so this page maps the places it has happened, from the 274 people evacuated in November 2022 through Kampung Simpang Halt in September 2023 to Kampung Batu 25 on Jalan Trong in June 2026. It names the schools, mosques and suraus that reopen as relief centres, the closure of the Taiping R&R on the expressway in October 2025, and who to call. Nothing on it can go stale, because none of it is a prediction. We looked at putting a live river gauge here and decided against it. The nearest one is about 15 km west on the Sungai Kurau, and the Sungai Larut through the town centre is not gauged at all — a distant river's level would have looked authoritative while describing something other than what floods Taiping. The right live source is rainfall, which JPS also publishes; their rainfall feed is currently returning empty rows, and we will build it when it is serving data again.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department publishes eight river gauges for Larut Matang dan Selama — on the Kurau, the Ara, the Ijok, the Mengkuang, the Selama and the Kerian — each with its own Normal, Alert, Warning and Danger level, and republishes the readings through the day. This page reads all eight at once, grouped by basin. None of them is in Taiping, and the page says so at the top. On 3 October the department's Perak table carried 28 stations and not one was on the Sungai Larut. So these are the right gauges for Batu Kurau, Pondok Tanjung and Selama, and no description at all of how the town centre drains. Each station is measured against its own zero, so a height here can only be read against the four levels printed beside it. A warning, and a place to go, still come from Portal Bencana.
