The page was missing the fire department, the ambulance service, the hospital's number, and the gas, power and utilidor lines — they are all there now, taken from the town's own emergency services page. We also had it wrong that 911 does not work from a cell phone here. It does, and has since 2019; what happened was a Northwestel outage in May 2025 that took cell calling down for a day. The page now says to dial 911 and keeps the direct 24-hour numbers for when the network is the thing that fails.
Inuvik Gas goes from $35.44 to $45.44 a gigajoule on 1 September 2026, its first change since 2013. Enter the GJ figure from your last bill and the page shows what the same usage costs before and after, per month and per year, alongside the utility's stated reasons.
Two new tools. How Cold Does It Feel? shows the wind chill now and over the next three days on Environment Canada's scale, with the hours exposed skin is at risk — quiet in summer, and there when the deep cold comes. The Dempster: Fuel & Range checks your tank against the long stretches with no fuel between Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Eagle Plains and Dawson, and tells you how much extra to carry.
The town page now opens with a drawing of Our Lady of Victory, the dome-shaped Igloo Church, among houses on wooden pilings above the delta under a low arctic sun.
The fixtures of the town's year in the order they come around — the Sunrise Festival, the Muskrat Jamboree, the once-a-year June heavy-item pickup with its sticker rule, the solstice events, the Great Northern Arts Festival and the greenhouse season.
Whether tonight is worth stepping out for — NOAA's space-weather model, the cloud forecast and the hours of real darkness, tuned for a town under the auroral oval where a quiet sky is often enough.
Environment Canada's live warnings — blizzards, extreme cold, wind — with the wind right now and the channels that matter when weather becomes a supply question here: DriveNWT for the road, the power corporation, and the town. It also carries the RCMP's warning that cell-phone 911 is unreliable locally, with the local emergency line instead.
