The council, health (Moyne Health, the GP clinic, NURSE-ON-CALL and the Warrnambool emergency department), the emergency and flood-and-storm numbers, and how to get to Warrnambool — grouped, with tappable numbers, each checked against the service's own website.
Wave, swell and wind off the Moyne River mouth, updated through the day, for the fishing fleet and anyone taking a small boat out through the bar. It says plainly that the bar is far more dangerous than the open sea and shifts with the sand.
On the town page, the tool now shows today's easier outdoor windows and the peak feels-like temperature at a glance, without opening it.
A resident asked for a tool that finds open booking slots across restaurants for a given time and place. It is a genuinely useful idea, but there is no open feed for live restaurant availability — the only way to get it would be to scrape booking sites, which breaks easily and could show tables that are not really free, so we declined it for now rather than build something unreliable. If a booking provider opens an API to us, it is worth revisiting.
A Leeds resident asked for a way to see recent wildlife sightings near them — the kind of thing that, for a rare bird, sends a crowd across the country. We can't replicate the birding alert networks that rare-bird news travels through, but we can show what people have openly shared: Recently Spotted lists research-grade, photo-backed observations logged near Leeds on iNaturalist, newest first, only where the record and its photo carry a licence we're allowed to display. It isn't an alert line, so it points to RSPB Leeds, the local reserves and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust for the news that moves fast.
A new tool kind shows a town's signature wildlife month by month and highlights what is around right now. Surf and sea-conditions tools can now appear as a live widget on a town's front page.
Dana Point is the Dolphin & Whale Watching Capital of the World. The new guide shows which whales and dolphins are out there each month — gray whales in winter, blue whales in summer, dolphins all year — with the harbor's boat operators and the best places to watch from shore.
After you ask for a new town, its page now opens with a clear note that your request went through — so you're never left wondering whether the form worked. It's a one-time message you can dismiss.
Added LA County's order to cap the reaction area with geomembrane by August 31, 2026 — the county hearing board denied the operator's appeal in May — alongside the EPA's September 15 western-slope deadline already listed.
The windmill answer no longer lists an open day that has already passed. Remaining 2026 dates are 12 July, 9 August, 13 September and 11 October.
When an events board is pinned to a town page, it now shows the next thing on the calendar at a glance — the day, what it is, and how much else is on that week — instead of a plain name-and-description card.
Town pages and tools can now be served in Amharic (Ge'ez script), with a Noto Sans Ethiopic webfont loaded only for Amharic pages. Shared chrome and the tool kinds used by the first Amharic town are translated; the long tail of unused tool labels falls back to English behind a marker so a later native-speaker review can find them. The Amharic strings are agent-authored and pending a native review.
Many towns are reached by WhatsApp message, not a voice call. Contact cards can now carry a WhatsApp number that opens WhatsApp directly (with the familiar green mark), separate from a call line. Olinda's emergency and utility contacts are the first to use it.
Kaikōura now has its own set of tools. The town sits on one of New Zealand's most active fault systems — the 2016 quake lifted its coast by metres — so the first tool tracks recent earthquakes near town straight from GeoNet, alongside the standing tsunami advice for this coast. Around it: a month-by-month guide to the whales, dolphins and seals; live sea conditions for the coast the boats work; a self-guided Peninsula Walkway; who to call; and a place for locals to share their picks. More to come as residents weigh in.
"When Can I Be Outside?" now shows the day's easiest hours and peak feels-like at a glance, alongside today's air — the two forecasts a Bakersfield summer runs on.
The small "checked 13 June 2026" line under each tool's facts is now validated against the calendar before it can go live, so a mistyped date can't reach a town page. A behind-the-scenes tidy with no change to anything that was already correct.
Watamu ina zana tano.
A new tool kind computes the civil dates of festivals set by the lunar calendar — like Hội An's lantern night on the 14th of every lunar month, plus Tết and Mid-Autumn — straight from the calendar, so the dates stay right for years. First used in Hội An.
A walk through the heart of Little Saigon on Bolsa Avenue — Phước Lộc Thọ and the Moran Street newspaper row — and a second along the Mendez Freedom Trail on Hoover Street, which marks the 1947 case that helped end school segregation in California. Both are flat, free, and walkable, with honest timing and a few words on visiting respectfully.
A new kind reads any roof from Google's Solar API and gives a transparent, no-sales-pitch estimate of panels, yearly power, savings and payback, with every assumption shown and sourced. It debuts in Westminster, California, and can be set up for other sunny towns.
Type your address and see what your own roof could do: how many panels fit, how much power they would make in a year, and a plain best-case estimate of the bill saving and payback. It reads your roof from Google's aerial imagery, uses Southern California Edison's published rates, and tells you straight that the 30% federal tax credit ended for systems bought in 2026. No sign-up, and nobody calls you.
Some towns are made of their wind. We built a wind report for them: it names the wind that is blowing from its direction — a place's own Levante and Poniente — and bands its strength on the published Beaufort scale, hour by hour today and tomorrow. It is the opposite of our mountain wind tool, which tells you when the wind eases enough to walk an exposed ridge; this one is for the people who came for the wind. First used in Tarifa.
Đà Lạt is on the map, in Vietnamese. For the farms on the cold high ground, a live frost-and-fog watch reads tonight's frost risk and today's fog. For anyone tired of the weekend gridlock, a crowd calendar shows how busy the centre will be — and the calmest day to go instead. There's a live rainy-season outlook, a month-by-month planner, and a board where residents answer each other. Weather from Open-Meteo; the first forecast link is Vietnam's national met service.
Tarifa is on the map, in Spanish. The wind is the town, so the first tool is a live wind report: it reads the forecast and says which wind is blowing — levante or poniente — from where, and how strong on the Beaufort scale, hour by hour today and tomorrow. Alongside it: the wildlife people have photographed around the Strait lately (the autumn raptor migration, the summer orcas), a month-by-month planner of winds, crowds and seasons, and a board where residents answer each other's questions. Wind data from Open-Meteo; sightings from iNaturalist.
The sea-and-surf tool now has a 'coastal' reading for exposed working coasts — small boats on open water with no river-mouth bar. It gives plain wave-size and weather words, cold-water and life-jacket safety framing, and a country-correct sea-rescue line, in all eight site languages. First used for Henningsvær in Lofoten, and reusable for other fishing villages on open water.
When It's Quiet shows the medina's usual rhythm — dawn is calmest, the day-trip buses fill the Bab El Ain to Ras El Maa corridor roughly 10am to 5pm, and the town empties again after five. It also maps the busy months, so you can plan a visit (or a quiet errand) around the crowd. A typical pattern, not a live count.
Towns prone to seasonal flooding can now run a board where signed-in residents tap their quarter to report that the water is up. Reports clear themselves as the water recedes, and the board always points to the official channel — it reports neighbours, not an authority. First used in Grand-Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire.
Three tools to start: a live rain outlook tied to the Nam Song and the wet season, a fair-prices and getting-around guide, and an honest safety rundown — drinks, the river, the balloons, and who to call if something goes wrong.
For far-north and far-south towns, a new tool computes how much daylight there is today, when the sun rises and sets, and how the light swings across the year — including the weeks when the sun never sets or never rises. It is pure astronomy from the town's coordinates, so it is always current and needs no data feed. First used in Reine, Lofoten.
A daylight page works out the midnight sun, the polar night and today's hours of light from Reine's place on the globe; a guide written from residents' voices covers parking, camping, the trails and drones; and a month-by-month planner covers the light, the skrei fishery, Reinebringen and the crowds.
The Rabbit Island boat page shows the real public fare and reads today's wind and waves on the crossing; a who-to-call card gathers the pharmacy and the Kampot hospitals; and a month-by-month planner covers the seasons, the harvests and the holidays.
Naoshima now has its first three tools. Naoshima Ferries lays out every boat on and off the island by route and dock and works out the last boat home from your clock — the trap that catches day-trippers — with Shikoku Kisen's live timetable linked and an honest note that fog, wind and typhoons cancel crossings. Naoshima Through the Year walks month by month through the Inland Sea weather, the typhoon risk, the winter museum-maintenance closures, and when the ferries and lodging fill up (2026 is a quiet year between Triennale festivals). Getting Around Naoshima answers the practical questions — reserving Chichu, the closed-Monday rule, the 100-yen bus and the bikes, and life on an island with no bridge.
A live forecast read for places where the weather question isn't heat but frost and fog. It bands the forecast minimum temperature on the Met Office's frost definitions and the modelled visibility on standard fog categories — for drivers and for farmers protecting tender crops. First use: Sa Pa, Vietnam.
Three tools to start, grounded in the town's own concerns: a dry-season water board where neighbours report where the water is off right now, a live frost-and-fog read for the roads and the terraces, and a month-by-month guide to the rice seasons, the monsoon and its landslides, and the winter cold.
Three tools to start, built around what residents say: a crowd-and-coach outlook so you can plan errands around the peaks, a plain-words guide to what the village asks of visitors (photos, private space, drones), and who to call — including how to report a drone over the village.
